Abstract

The study focuses on the impact of globalisation on Nigeria’s foreign. It analyzes the evolution of Nigeria’s foreign policy via the impact of globalization on Nigeria’s bilateral and multilateral relations and her conducts with other countries of the world with respect to United States and China. The specific objective of this study is to look at the influence of and correlation between globalization and Nigeria’s foreign policy with emphasis on the determinants of Nigeria’s foreign policy; the internal and external determinants of Nigeria’s foreign policy as well as discusses these determinants and the principles of Nigeria’s foreign policy. The time frame of this study is 2007-2016. The population of the study is the Foreign Affairs institute in Agbara, Ogun State, Nigeria, of which a sample size of 50 respondents were used. The form of research design used is the descriptive research design to establish the relationship between dependent and independent variable. 50 questionnaires were administered and 44 questionnaires were retrieved. Descriptive statistics percentage was used to analyze the demographic data while regression and correlation was used to test the hypothesis. The findings therefore suggested that there is a significant impact and relationship between globalization and Nigeria’s foreign policy. The researcher also discussed the positive and negative impacts of globalization stating that the negative aspects of globalization must be faced by every developing nation for them to be relevant in the global scheme of things. For Nigeria, in particular, the challenges are immense but not unconquerable. Nigeria cannot afford to remain aloof and be completely isolated from the global economic interplay.
